Cockpit Drill

When you first get into car: H.N.D.S.S.S.M

  • H = Handbrake (On)
  • N = Neutral                         (Not in Gear)
  • D = Doors (Closed)
  • S = Seat (Adjusted in & out, up or down + Head restraint)
  • S = Steering (Adjusted up or down + Slight bend in arms)
  • S = Seat Belt (Secure + not twisted)
  • M = Mirrors (Adjusted for your driving position)

Before moving off P.O.M

·        P = Prepare (Hand on gear lever, Clutch in and select first gear using palming method. Set the gas – Gently (hold steady at 1500 rpms) Raise clutch slowly to biting point. Listen to drop in revs, feel vibrations then FEET STILL)
·        O = Observation (6 point check)

Signal and then hand on handbrake. IF IT’S SAFE…)

·        M = Manoeuvre (Release handbrake and KEEP FEET STILL (car will creep forwards)

Steer to normal driving position Straighten up .

3..2..1.. Slowly clutch fully up

Cancel signal if necessary.)

 

Before turning left or right  M.S.P.S.L

  • M = Mirrors (Middle + left, Middle + right)
  • S = Signal (Left or Right)
  • P = Position (Left or Right of our lane)
  • S = Speed (Slow car down to 10 – 15kph)
  • L = Look (Look in to where we are going)
