Cockpit Drill
When you first get into car: H.N.D.S.S.S.M
- H = Handbrake (On)
- N = Neutral (Not in Gear)
- D = Doors (Closed)
- S = Seat (Adjusted in & out, up or down + Head restraint)
- S = Steering (Adjusted up or down + Slight bend in arms)
- S = Seat Belt (Secure + not twisted)
- M = Mirrors (Adjusted for your driving position)
Before moving off P.O.M
· P = Prepare | (Hand on gear lever, Clutch in and select first gear using palming method. Set the gas – Gently (hold steady at 1500 rpms) Raise clutch slowly to biting point. Listen to drop in revs, feel vibrations then FEET STILL) |
· O = Observation | (6 point check)
Signal and then hand on handbrake. IF IT’S SAFE…) |
· M = Manoeuvre | (Release handbrake and KEEP FEET STILL (car will creep forwards)
Steer to normal driving position Straighten up . 3..2..1.. Slowly clutch fully up Cancel signal if necessary.) |
Before turning left or right M.S.P.S.L
- M = Mirrors (Middle + left, Middle + right)
- S = Signal (Left or Right)
- P = Position (Left or Right of our lane)
- S = Speed (Slow car down to 10 – 15kph)
- L = Look (Look in to where we are going)
